Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design, New Zealand

Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design, New Zealand

At Whitecliffe, the Graphic Design department prepares students
for a career in design by combining technical skills with a strong
conceptual drive. Students explore both traditional and digital media
and engage in research, problem solving and visual communication.
Tuition across a range of industry standard software is balanced
with hands-on projects in illustration, photography and printmaking.
Students experiment within areas such as publication design, motion
graphics, corporate communications, web design, packaging design
and advertising. These are supported by topics that explore key
aspects of Graphic Design practice including art direction, brand
identity and design theory. In the fourth and final year students drive
their own year-long project based on the design field they wish to
enter. Students develop industry contacts and professional skills
through internships, exhibitions, and by working on live briefs. All
lecturers are active researchers and practising designers.
