Autumn 2010

Editorial Eye 77

Photography and the joy of publishing in Eye 77.

The principal themes of this issue are photography and publishing, and the way that both are changing in a media climate that is in constant churn. While the new technologies of apps and social media challenge our preconceptions and re-order our priorities, designers and other visual practitioners feel empowered to explode the restraints of flat screens and pages, with lettering that covers the cityscape, or books that delight with the sensual pleasures of physical printing. Meanwhile, photographers embrace the dimensions of movement and sound to meet the demands of a world in which posters and portraits move, and even a ‘still life’ can take flight. Now is an exciting, vertiginous time to make a magazine about visual culture. Thank you for following. JLW
