‘Curiosity … is the key to the fantastic’ – a night of stars and (I) Wonder
Last night Marian Bantjes captivated a sold-out audience for her talk at St Bride Library. It was the first time she has spoken in detail about her new book I Wonder (Thames & Hudson, £19.95), just published.
There’s a short article about Marian’s book, in Eye 77, Autumn 2010, out very soon. Here are a few of pictures of the book from our photo session.
Of course the content is fascinating – articles about everything from the concept of ‘honour’ to putting up IKEA shelving (a witty and detailed ‘infographic’) to photographic memories of her family – but just feel the binding! Look at the gold! This is a book to have and hold.
There will be a launch and book-signing event for I Wonder at Magma’s Clerkenwell branch tonight.
Thanks to everyone at St Bride Library and Eye magazine for making last night’s event such a success. Cheers to Harviestoun for their complimentary bottles of Schiehallion (‘She-ha-li-on’). And huge thanks to Marian Bantjes.
Read our Reputations interview with Marian Bantjes in Eye 72.
Read ‘Surface to space’, Marian’s article about Origami in Eye 67 (out of print).
Eye magazine is available from all good design bookshops and at the online Eye shop, where you can order subscriptions, single issues and back issues. More about publishing and photography in the autumn issue, Eye 77, on press in the next few days.
