This is one of the most extensive displays of Kennard’s work to date and has been specially conceived for Whitechapel Gallery. The exhibition spans over three galleries within the former Whitechapel Library space, and brings together work from across the artist’s five-decade career, offering a view of his photomontage method with a lens on social and political history.

Lauren Halsey has transformed the Serpentine gallery into an immersive funk garden with a site-specific installation responding to Kensington Gardens. Through maximalist installations and stand-alone objects, Halsey archives and remixes the signs and symbols that populate her environment.

The theme for the 9th ISType conference is “Text-ure.” Nine designers will explore the textural qualities of typography, type design, and their graphic applications, including Astrid Stavro (see Eye 95), Eben Sorkin, Kostas Bartsokas, and Liza Enebeis (see Eye 100 and Eye 104), among others. The conference, occurring biennially in Istanbul, will address designing and using typefaces in various text environments, whether static or dynamic, across both micro and macro graphic applications.

International Assembly Conference
28 November – 5 December 2024
The International Assembly Conference is an all-day design and creative event with an impressive line up of speakers including Marina Willer from Pentagram (see Eye 99), Mitch Paone from DIA (see Eye 104), Angela Kirkwood, Eric Hu, Metahaven (see Eye 71), Joseph Lebus from PORTO ROCHA, and Liza Enebeis from Studio Dumbar/DEPT® (see Eye 100 and 104).

Stencil work: scenes in a history

This talk will survey scenes of stencil work spanning six centuries, discussing and illustrating the stencil’s surprisingly varied use in the production of textual and graphic documents, marks, and messages. Drawing on many years of research, the talk will explore the aesthetic, technical, social, entrepreneurial, regulatory, and linguistic dimensions of stencil work.
